FAQ

The Exam is given twice per year, Fall and Spring.  A form will be sent to students at the end of the prior semester at which time students may declare their intention to take the exam.  Once vetted to make sure students who filled out the form are indeed eligible to take the exam, the instructor of STAT 692 will send permission numbers to those students, allowing them to register for the course and exam.

A student needs 75% or more to pass the exam. The passing grade criteria will be reviewed every semester and may be lowered based on the difficulty of the exam. The standard will not be raised.

We expect all students to maintain honesty during the comprehensive exam.

If a student is found to have violated the University’s academic integrity policy, the student receives a failing grade on the exam and is not allowed to retake the comprehensive exam.

Students who do not pass the exam will receive an "INC" (incomplete) and may retake the STAT Comprehensive Exam when next offered.  A student in need of retaking the exam should meet with the Graduate Coordinator to work out a plan for preparing for the exam.  Retaking the exam will NOT require taking STAT 692 again. Upon successful completion of the exam, your grade for STAT 692 will be changed to "CR" (credit).
For Spring 2025 semester, the exam is scheduled for April 11th, 4:30 PM - 8:30 PM Pacific Time.  Questions should be directed to Dr. Eric Fox (eric.fox@csueastbay.edu) and/or Dr. Li Zou (li.zou@csueastbay.edu).
