CalFresh Healthy Living Workshop Menu
This series of is designed to help you improve your cooking skills, make healthier choices, and manage your food budget more effectively. Whether you're looking to learn quick meal prep strategies, explore healthier snack options, or understand how to shop smarter, these workshops will give you the tools and knowledge to make lasting changes to your lifestyle.
Each workshop will focus on practical skills that you can apply immediately, whether you’re preparing meals at home, making healthier beverage choices, or shopping on a budget. You’ll leave each session feeling empowered and inspired to take control of your health, one meal at a time.
Please note: Each workshop is limited to 15 participants to ensure a hands-on, interactive experience. If you’re interested in attending as a larger group, you can request additional spaces, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Cooking and Meal Preparation
Lunch on the Go (60 min)
Participants learn how to select and prepare more balanced meals when out and about. This session includes a 30 minute hands-on cooking lesson highlighting knife skills to complement the workshop.
Quick and Energizing Snacks (60 min)
Participants will learn how to choose and prepare snacks that help promote long-lasting energy. This session includes a 30 minute hands-on cooking lesson to complement the workshop.
Microwave Cooking (60 min)
Participants will learn how to prepare nourishing and satisfying meals that are cooked in the microwave. Participants will also learn how to interpret expiration and best-by dates. This session includes a 30 minute hands-on cooking lesson to complement the workshop.
Flavor Using Spices and Seasonings (60 min)
Participants will learn how to use spices, herbs, and other ingredients to add flavor without extra salt. Participants will also learn how to use and choose healthier fats. This session includes a 30 minute hands-on cooking lesson to complement the workshop.
Delicious and Creative Vegetable Dishes (60 min)
Participants learn how to prepare vegetable-based main dishes and how to store produce. This session includes a 30 minute hands-on cooking lesson to complement the workshop.
One-Pot Meals (60 min)
Participants will learn how to make a complete meal in one dish and practice selecting recipes from EatFresh.org. This session includes a 30 minute hands-on cooking lesson to complement the workshop.
Healthy Meal Planning and Prepping (60 min)
Participants will learn strategies for planning and prepping healthy meals ahead of time. This session includes a 30 minute hands-on cooking lesson to complement the workshop.
Health and Lifestyle Education:
Rethink Your Drink (30 min)
Participants will examine what beverages they are drinking and learn how to make healthier beverage choices by reading food labels, choosing appropriate portions and identifying beverages to drink more often and less often to promote better health.
(an optional 30-minute activity can be added where participants get to make and try healthy beverages)
Budgeting and Shopping
Shopping on a Budget (30 min)
Participants will learn practical tips for how to plan and shop for healthy meals and snacks without breaking the bank. Participants will practice creating shopping lists, comparing prices, and finding deals to stretch their grocery budgets.
(an optional 30-minute tour of the HOPE Pantry can be added to complement this workshop)
