Autism Spectrum Disorders Added Authorization (ASDAA)


Please note that all candidates who have completed or are enrolled in our current Mild to Moderate Support Needs and Extensive Support Needs Preliminary Credential Programs are authorized to work with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (and, thus, do not need the added ASDAA). Special education teachers who completed older special education credential programs may want to consider adding the ASDAA.
Admission Requirement
Applicants must currently hold a preliminary Education Specialist Credential.
Program Requirements
To earn the ASDAA, candidates must complete the following courses:
Fall semester
SPED 602A Autism Spectrum Disorders: Characteristics and Etiology ( 2 units )
SPED 604 Individual and School-Wide Behavioral Needs, Mental Health & Positive Supports (4 units)
 
Spring semester
SPED 605 Communication and Technology (4 units)
SPED 608 Instruction and Behavioral Supports and Strategies; Extensive Support Needs (4 units)
