MSBA Candidate and Trailblazer in Analytics

Vinmathi Iyappan, a standout student in the Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program, has already made remarkable strides in her academic and professional journey. Having joined the program in Fall 2023, she exemplifies a blend of leadership, innovation, and a passion for using analytics to address pressing societal challenges.

As a Women in Leadership Associate Scholarship recipient, Vinmathi has demonstrated her commitment to breaking barriers and excelling in leadership roles. Her dedication to advancing her knowledge and skills is further evident through her professional experiences. Over the summer, she interned at Oakley, where she honed her analytical expertise in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. She is currently applying her talents at the California Department of Public Health, contributing to impactful projects that align with her passion for public service and data-driven solutions.

Vinmathi’s academic achievements are equally inspiring. She was awarded the OSCAR scholarship for her innovative research in text analytics, focusing on disability accommodations for people with epilepsy. Leveraging cutting-edge Large Language Model (LLM) based techniques, she pioneered a qualitative data analysis approach to help analyze concerns of people with epilepsy. The results of this research can help provide understanding and recommendations to improve accessibility and inclusivity for individuals with invisible disabilities.

Her dedication to using data for meaningful change extends beyond her scholarship. Vinmathi also presented her research on prescription drug expenditures at the CSU Student Research Symposium, where she showcased her ability to bridge analytics and real-world challenges. Her work not only reflects her technical skills but also her commitment to addressing critical issues in healthcare and public policy.

When she’s not immersed in academic and professional pursuits, Vinmathi enjoys gardening, finding joy and creativity in nurturing plants. One of her side passion projects combines this love for gardening with her analytical expertise: building AI tools to assist with urban gardening. By integrating technology and sustainability, she aspires to empower urban communities to grow their own food more efficiently and sustainably.

Vinmathi’s journey in the MSBA program is a testament to her passion for learning, her drive to make a difference, and her ability to excel in diverse roles. As she continues to grow academically and professionally, she remains a role model for aspiring leaders and analysts, demonstrating how data can be a powerful tool for creating a better and greener future.
